Maya Angelou "Finishing School" Journal entry
When my mom made me learn how to play the flute, I was very upset. She told me I would love to play it when I'm older and that I will thank her later on. I did not want to play it because of the practicing that is involved. When I first played it, I was upset about sounding really awful. My mom told me to practice and practice and I will sound much better. So I did. I played and played which irritated my dad. He could not take the sound of high out of tuned whistling. Finally I sounded better and I really did enjoy playing it. I now see value in learning the Flute. I got to meet people from different bands and got to go on band trips. So I thank my mom for making me learn how to play a instrument.

same with me. i was put in band class. i didnt know anything about readng music or playing any instrument. my teacher put me on trombone. At first i stuggled, tremendously, but after a month i learned how to play my tuning note and bflat scale lol. This was all freshman year, now its junior yea. Ive been on the trombone and marching band for almost 3 years. i have transitioned from 3rd to 1st parts in music. i really value my teachers insight of my potential and for him introducing music and its concepts to me
